Wet feet in Bunninyong

It was a pretty drizzly start to the Women's national road race.  We parked in a paddock towards the mountain top however in this Covid edition you needed a ticket to walk up to the Disseldorp enclosure which we did not have. Instead we took a short cut straight down to the start line. It was around 2km and it  never stopped raining. My feet stayed wet for the rest of the day.  We saw both Michael and Kerry Gigante in the town but it was not their daughter's day for a win but she did well enough to get a bronze medal in the under 23's.  We had some lunch at a restaurant in the town and then got home in time to see the last 50km of the mens race on TV after watching them take off at the start line.

Not your typical way to the race

New House for a New Bub

James and Heidi will be glad to have some space and they have found plenty in Watsonia.  The yard was so big that the original owners split of a chunk to a different title and moved in there then sold the main house which James and Heidi are now in.  The main obstacle was the King bed which was manoeuvred in one piece but would not get thru the door. The bed head had to be taken off then put back once inside the room.  The Telstra man got the internet going in less than an hour so that was excellent as well. The shops are two minutes walk and the train station five minutes. Our drive time is 1hr 30min as the house at the end of the ring road.

At Last the Cast has Passed

It has taken a few days but I can now see bike races live on the TV again.  We had the Chromecast working previously for the Disney Channel and was quite straightforward. However this bicycle stuff is being more interactive. You just can't watch the race. They want you to type in as you go.  I would be interested in some of this stuff like being able to bring up the route and see where the race is on the course.  There are other stats you can ask for etc etc.  So you need a smarter device like a tablet between you and the TV.    So the ingredients are as follows, the Chromecast device, the Android tablet, the GCN+ app on the tablet, The Google Home app on the same tablet, a common WIFI network,  a Google account and a GCN+ account plus its subscription. The GCN+ is going at half price right now being $33 for a year. Of course this is no replacement for the whole Eurosport channel just the cycling part, to do that you need the Eurosport app which is not currently available in Australia but may be possible via a VPN which you can set to fool the app into thinking you are in Europe.  This article is written in English.

The race in the kitchen bench is being cast to the TV on the wall.

Beach News

We spent three hours idling some time on the beach this arvo. It was mostly all to ourselves although some screaming teenage girls sent us packing around 5ish.  Also our neighbour across the way was quite chatty for an hour or so.  There should be another batch of zuchinis arriving soon he said. He also wanted to know about, the sauce, the jam and the chutney that he delivered last time.  I have opened them all and we are getting thru them was the report and very tasty as well.  What he didn't know was his new neighbours have bought two doors down for $610,000. These are the ones we urged to put in an offer at $575,000. We know this because they were filling up at the servo when we pulled in.  PS the tide was out so we just played about in the shallows.

Chromecast

We bought one of these Google Chromecast gizmos which is hanging off the back of the TV.  I had two things in mind, the Disney channel, which our TV can't do and  GCN+ which is the Global Cycling Network. The Disney stuff worked fine.  You download the App, it installs, create the account and payment details and we have watched our first episode of The Mandalorian. It all streams no problem and is all done on the TV.  The GCN+ seems to get caught up in the Youtube channel.  There is some other GCN App that goes on a phone and between them I can't find any bike races and I am not sure if I have subscribed to Youtube or GCN+.   Also Discovery own both Eurosport and GCN. So when Eurosport disappeared from the Fetch box before it disappeared from Foxtel I am now trying to get its morphed brother GCN working. If you cannot understand this article it is meant to be plain English and I have trouble rereading it myself.

Kid in the Kitchen

Asher has a cubby house with incredible detail.  Getting in and out is another matter.  And when you are in don't forget to close the door or she will insist on getting passed so she can close it.  I can sit in there for 15 minutes or so but on this video I have access via the window. And don't try to fool the sandwich maker by ripping off their money!

One Night Stand

There must be at least twenty books that I could see with this title but I reckon this is the only one that hints at comedy at least before you read the story that is. If you are a professional comedian and your work is drying up because of the stupid COVID then what can you do with your time. Write a book. This one has some funny stuff and is almost too close to the truth in places. To me writing a joke is harder than writing a poem or song lyrics.  Those can be funny but a joke needs that punch line.  Have you heard the one about

The Rogainer and the Cartographer walking down the street. A guy comes up to them and goes "I'm lost, can you help me with directions?"  Incredulous, they look at each other pointing "North is that way."

I thought it was funny.  We have four copies of Simon Taylor's book  here and somewhere along the way we have to get them signed before we can give them out.
