Weighting Game

Use of weights is meant to be a good thing as you get a bit older. Now I have trouble gripping normal weights which are attached to bars.  Dumbells also give me finger trouble, so I dusted off my shot put which was still laying around.  This is a weight that requires an open palm to handle and it is a brute of a canonball.  For the last two months I have been hefting it around and balancing it with one hand. My left arm is still dodgy since I dragged that sheet of rubber matting up the hill and I have previously had bursitus and tendonitis in that elbow but so far so good.

I ordered a new shot that is age appropriate, being 4kg and it arrived yesterday.  Way back when, I could get the canonball out over 12 metres so what would it be like nowadays.  I took it down to the beach for a first try.  My main aim was not to hurt anything.  So after a 50 yar hiatus, I tried a simple stand and deliver.  It went out about 6 metres. So then came the reverse crouch and I estimate this was around 8 metres.  A good goal would be 10 metres but who knows where this might go.

PS This week Ryan Crouser (USA) sent a canonball (7.26kg) out 22.34 m to take gold.

Williamstown rest day

We are starting a recovery period here and the way the rain is soaking down so far today we will be inside for most of it.  I have more photos to scan and there is a box of stamps here for a rainy day.  Ice cream season is just about here so I am going to make this the last weight reporting day. I started the weight reduction effort in Feb, so this is the 9th month and as it turns out I lost 1kg for each month.  We just read this morning that dates are a good aid for weight loss.  I have been using those as a snack for 6 months not really thinking about weight loss.  The main factor is portion control.  This is one of my theories about  'global health'  if everyone lost some weight, the world's environment will improve. Soapbox Soapbox.

Swim Record

Three swims this week and I am trying to remember if I swam it in April previously.  It was warmer today at 21° and the Sun helps although the start was a bit murky.  No run ins with rays today.  After yesterdays council prompting they rang me back quick smart. It seems these type of dog requests are grouped together in some periodical community conflab. We had an afternoon cheese board session with one of the neighbours named Jill.  She used to work with the army down at the fort in Queenscliff. I remember having a dress up session there years ago where you could imitate different army officers.  It's the first Friday of the month so the weight update this morning is 91.4Kg. At this rate next month will only be a 500g reduction if the trend is the same.
