This would have to be the most interrupted book reading I've done for a while. Imagine the main character is a spaceship that talks and thinks and sees at the same time as all of its 2000 sailors. The leader of this universe also has multiple selves. However one day this invincible empire is changed by an alien who injects a change into the leader's thought process and over 1000 years the leader starts to fight itself. Two more volumes have been written since this one to make the obligatory trilogy. They will have to wait.
