After a lot of pure bookkeeping work for most of the day we got across to the beach for 2 hours of reasonable calm. The tide was way out which meant we could wade out along the pole line much further than we have walked before. Not many people around for a Sunday afternoon with just a few dog walkers getting in our space. The mussels were showing up on the lower part of the poles and I saw one guy with a couple of heavy bags as he was leaving so I suspect he was illegally trimming some from the old jetty poles.
