Strawberry May Day

I spent about an hour in the olive tree today. This year I have changed strategy, only collecting olives that are as ripe as possible.  It gives birds a longer chance to nibble at them but I only saw a few that had been pecked at.  I got another 3.5 kilos down of mostly high quality. This can't be said of the strawberries. If you wait to long the worms get into them and they can hollow out the insides before you know it.  We have been checking into these critters. There is a fruit fly that has a long injector that lays eggs on the surface of the strawberry.  These develop into worms that feast on the soft flesh.  We have thrown out at least half of our strawberries. There are various internet antidotes but so far we are trying to get the fruit before the worm.  So when you eat a strawberry it is really eggs and strawberry curtesy of the Drosophila.

ripe n ready

sometimes I use my finger to scour them out
