Beach Report No 477
I took a rubbish bag along with me as I had spied some bits and pieces washed up in last weeks wind. There is always a lot of sea grass which breaks down quick enough but often hides the rubbish. It takes no more than 30 minutes to stroll up to the end and back depending on how thorough is the inspection. I picked up at least 30 items which is the biggest haul I have made. The stuff was varied from bottle caps to foam pieces, a drink container, a glue gun funnel and the largest piece was a section of rubber window trim.

Corio Bay Obs
Even during COVID time one thing that has not stopped here are the large boats. The small boats are put away but not the big ones. The Siem Amethyst is an ocean going tug but it was zig zagging all over the place for a week or so. It may have been a survey of some sort to do with the Spirit of Tassie moving its base to Geelong in the next two years. I expect the channel will need some work especially at the shallow Geelong end if the S of T is going to dock at a new pier.
Also across the way, the opposite is true of the planes. They are going nowhere and I can count at least 30 of them parked at Avalon just waiting to be set free.

Produce Tree
We have found five different recipients for the kilos of olives I have plucked off our tree so far. The latest is the Produce Tree in Port Arlington which is literally a tree at the back of a neighbourhood centre with a trestle table and some containers. I have been wanting to find this place for a while as we also have other over abundances like lemons, tomatoes and other veggies from time to time. The sunset season is continuing here and last night was as spectacular as you can get.

WebCams
We have another round of remote card playing tonight and I have spent some hours getting the video to work. On the last three card sessions something has not worked each time. The tablet style devices seem to be a good option but I cannot get those to work even though Safari is meant to be OK on the Ipad but it wont work for me. Last week I switched to an older laptop and got video but no audio. I then went to my lightweight machine that I have taken on many trips. I got this to work but the camera is facing outwards not toward me and I cannot workout how to switch them. Lastly I am now on my everyday machine however this is bound to a docking station which I can't easily move but with some twisting it does show a side profile. I have tested that the microphone is working. This time all is ready.

Perfecto
After three days of rain and 8 weeks of stay at homes, you need to grab that good weather day and get out. I don't think we have had a calmer day and I know tomorrow wont be the same. We tested out the sore knee using the Drysdale circuit however Debbie turned back half way but it was still a good hit out. Sitting on the deck where I could read as I had a book in my hand, was the sublime afternoon. There are many neighbours ready for a chat, as this configuration is perfect for distance chatter and the acoustics work well. You could see along way and the streaming gossamer like threads are everywhere. We tried to look up what they were but couldn't find anything.

The Moonstone
The only ready copy of the Moonstone I could find was part of the Google Books project where they have been scanning whole books, very similar to the Gutenburg Project. Books fall out of copyright after a certain period and this one certainly qualifies having been written in 1868 and illustrated as well. I don't find it easy to read books via the fixed computer screen. I may have been able to get this one onto an Ipad but persevered with the computer. This is the first whodunit that was ever written. The main question was always about the Diamond not the deaths that occurred along the way. Nevertheless this book established the ground rules for detective novels to come. It has been filmed a few times and as a TV series in 2016. I always have trouble finding these versions after I have read the books.

Golf Course Ramble
We have never walked thru the centre of the next door golf course. At the moment it is closed to golfers but there are plenty of open sections where you can wander, especially if no one is belting golf balls around the place. The walk was 4km but took an hour or so with a few stops along the beach. You may be able to tell from the rugged up photos that it was a coolish breeze. James gave us an opinion on the outdoor area here as far as re-roofing it goes and using some of the existing beams to get the job done.
