The Moonstone

The only ready copy of the Moonstone I could find was part of the Google Books project where they have been scanning whole books, very similar to the Gutenburg Project.  Books fall out of copyright after a certain period and this one certainly qualifies having been written in 1868 and illustrated as well.  I don't find it easy to read books via the fixed computer screen. I may have been able to get this one onto an Ipad but persevered with the computer. This is the first whodunit that was ever written. The main question was always about the Diamond not the deaths that occurred along the way. Nevertheless this book established the ground rules for detective novels to come. It has been filmed a few times and as a TV series in 2016. I always have trouble finding these versions after I have read the books.

  1. I use google "Play Books" app on smart phone. Easy to use, navigate and read books using smart phone. You can upload books using google chrome browser. All free to use and are stored on your personal online book shelf using your free online data allocation. Books are very small data use. I prefer "epub" versions but I think you can upload pdf versions and others. After you upload book using browser then you open app on phone and view your uploaded book shelf. Select the book and download to your phone for off line reading pleasure anywhere anytime. After reading you can delete phone copy but keep online bookshelf version.

  2. My phone is a windows phone so may not be so easy. But the bottom line is I think I prefer to hold a book.
