Nectarines

We have two fruit trees that are two years old now. The tree with the most fruit but least attention is the nectarine tree. The apricots came first and had that flawless shape, colour and taste. The nectarines are plentiful, they are the wierdest shapes and birds are pecking them before they ripen. Our neighbour cut down his nectarine tree, said it was 'a mess not worth having'. These fruits range from bright green to bright red and can ripen and soften on the window sill. We had a few testers on the sill and they did soften but they look bitter green. There is one only that looks promising in the batch they we just picked before the rain came. It does have a small bird hole in it.

1hr beach revisted

The heat is on here but with an Easterly coming across the water it often cools things just enough. We went across for a morning swim at 10:30am.  The breeze was setting the water to a jumpy state which was not the case yesterday.  We found a couple of deeper spots to sit in at the far end. A yacht came in with the same idea but they could not get to shore as the tide was on the way out.  We stayed til 12:30 and made our way back for some lunch and the finish of the cricket. We can always sit in the kiddie pool if it is still hot.

1hr Beach

The Taylors have headed back on a hot day but we did go over to the beach for a quiet sit in the water before midday. The temperature then was 25° and currently it is 37°.  We basically stayed indoors playing some Sequence games which seems to have made a comeback after the rounds we played over Christmas.  We also caught a fair bit of the final test which seems to be a very even contest.

Tarra Town again

We seem to be spending a lot of time hanging around that ferry terminal lately. We were back there again this time with the Taylors in tow. Not those Taylors from last week, the other Taylors.  It was a longish drive for them as they came from Melbourne and then drove a bit further to Queencliff. After lunch at Tarra we went upstairs to checkout the undersea room.  Then it was a post-prandial stroll around the town and finished off with an ice cream.

Soap Pool

It probably wasn't a good idea to get soap in the pool and we will remember that for next time. It was the bubble blowers that started as bubbles but then got emptied into the pool. A brown very slippery scum soon coated the bottom of the pool. At first we were scooping it with a mop but most likely were getting some and moving the rest.  So the pool has been drained and up ended. We will let everything dry and start again. Good thing there are no water restrictions at the moment. We may have access to a pool filter that is not in use due to cats clawing holes in another pool.  What a catastrophe.

All quiet on the Beach Front

It seems odd having a quiet house.  The washing machine is still going but the last of it is in sight. We were getting so good at scheduling activities for grandies that Evie would come to me and ask "What's next?"  Like we have had a snack now so I am ready for the next thing.  On the way home she was pleased to know that it was all happening back here again on her birthday next month.  Now that the Avalon connection is working its all plain sailing (plane flying).

Last Day Timing

Evie and Charlie had never seen fireworks so the whole day was scheduled around getting them tired enough to want an afternoon nap but not overly tired as they need to be up and about at 9:30pm.  So there was a morning gardening session followed by an energetic pool session with water pistol shooting and chasing.  This was now supposed to be the afternoon sleeping part.  Bring out the sleeping weapon. We never needed to use the car as a sleep inducer but for these two it works amazingly. The other day a fighting Charlie was asleep with one circuit round the block.  Having had a good nap we then had an afternoon beach session. This was the best yet with Evie using her goggles to dive and look under the water for snails, shells and grasses. Whatever Evie does Charlie has to do, so he was diving and swimming as well.  This all led into a good feed of leftovers and the drive to Portarlington. We had 90 min before show time and the playground used up 60 mins.  At first Charlie did not like the explosions but got used to it quickly.  This was a good 15 minute show for kids. The drive back was timed for grandies to fall asleep and the same for us. What we did not need was possums at 2:00am and the the power to go out as well. Maybe there is one less possum on a wire nearby.
