Scanners

I have two scanners here that I use every day. There is a document scanner that is used a lot. Then there is the flatbed scanner, for stamps and photos but also negatives, and is used almost hourly. I have been poking around for ways to scan large format documents, like maps.  I have around 100 rogaining maps with many personalised touches like the route plot and notes etc. These can also endup quite damaged after 24 hours in the field. Photographing is possible but not easy. I have ordered a wand scanner which is designed to be rolled across a surface and scanning what's underneath.  It could be a lemon but the reviews and feedback from other users say it will scan maps. It seems there is a skill to moing it at a consistent speed and direction. I will have to navigate this problem when it gets here from the US of A.

Another surprise bag

The warmish weather continues but we did not push it for a third day of riding. Instead we went for an afternoon beach walk cum beach clean which is only a couple of km but it does get the daily step count to the required 6000. I was not expecting much of a haul as I got quite a bag full last week but sure enough we picked up a kg of stuff. Half of it was the biggest dog poo bag we have seen. As usual they did half the job, gathered, bagged and tied it but left it on the beach. One thing we have not noticed lately is the Tassie boat. It must have a down time period during Winter. That does not apply to the miriad small fishing boats we see out there every day.

Corio Calm

This calm spell continues although it was disturbed by a visit to the dentist this morning.  He says other than the fact that I have some loose teeth, some chipped teeth and some vague dark patches in my gums, everything seems to be fine. That will be $181 please. AHA but the Bupa card took care of the whole bill. Then I found one of the last remaining commonwealth banks still open in Victoria, as I had to bank the govt $250 energy cheque.  As soon as I got back, I got an email saying we will give you another $250 for my other energy check but this time it will go into an account.  We went for another ride this afternoon as the Sun was still out and Debbie's schedule had a gap in it.  We need the practice before we ride in Bendigo in two weeks time.

World Bicycle Day +1

We were supposed to take a ride yesterday being World Bicycle Day but we got a better offer so we rode this morning instead.  It was absolutely calm, as it has been for a few days now, but with low fog that does not quite make it to the ground. On our route, we saw that the new sheds for the Q Train seem to be fully operating with it's own side track and switching points in place. Further along from there we met a lady setting up her new Community Table. This is in competition with the Port Arlington one so we have a new venue for olives. You will never guess her name.  At the end of the ride we went searching for the new bike path that finishes just down from our house.  It still has a gap in the middle and is around 1km long.

Elephant & Castle

This is a Geelong pub with a lot of atmosphere.  Julie booked it for lunch because it had wood fires going and she got the waiter to move us into the room where the fire was. Also just for something different they came to Geelong by train for a few dollars each.  We didn't see any elephants but there was a moose loose in the hoose. The food was very tasty especially the ribs where the pork fell off the bone.  It seems to double as an art gallery, as there was no more space on the walls to hang any more photos.  Just to round off the day we got them back to the station in time to catch a football special train with no stops until Southern Cross.  I wonder if they would have been allowed on if they had Essendon scarves?

Sunshine Calm

I am still catching up on domestics around here.  It is the calmest day for a long time and also noiseless then I started up the lawnmower at 11:00am.  I expected half the street to start glaring over their fences. At least there was no whippering and snippering as I had left that gizmo at Williamstown.  I found out about yesterday's photo post. This was a train trip to Chiltern and most likely mid week.  I have a stack more that I scanned this morning from all over the place like, the Grampians, Mt Baw Baw and Apollo Bay.  I also have part 2 of the busy chef.  The Sun is in its low passing arc at the moment which means sitting on the lower deck I was getting full Sun while eating lunch.  Too much even! That's a change for Winter.

1/6/23

Yes Winter has arrived but it is full sunshine here and topping out at 18°.  I had a recovery day yesterday after the previous three day's exertions.  I caught up on the clothes washing, spent an hour in the supermarket and also unloaded the videos from the weekend.  I have Estelle working away in her kitchen and she is cooking for two of us.  The photo scanning is also bubbling along. I try to spend at least an hour a day on this but no more than two.  I found one photo here that I don't recognise at all. Maybe I wasn't there but it looks like we are off on a country train and the caption only says May 89.

What was the destination?

I will continue this film over the next two days.
