The Ady

Geelong Advertiser is an institution around here, not that we get to see it that often.  Debbie had her photo taken last week and immediately you new it was a winner.  We have been busy all week away from Geelong so could not get a paper until today.  As it goes, she is in today's paper and the photo dominates the page. I happen to agree with the opinion expressed, that Aussie Day has been previously targeted by a few with nothing much else to do but a lot of it has diminished since that last referendum.  Oi Oi Oi.

CartoPhilately

I have been honing in on specific stamp themes and have now joined the CartoPhilatelic Society at only $15US per year.  They have been counting  stamps with maps on, since 1955 and now have a list with over 40,000 stamps, which I now have a copy of .  Seems like there is no shortage of material to collect.  There might be some of those members with cartography education but maybe not too many. I thought I would get out my formal cartography recognition. It took me a day to track down where those old frames where hidden.  The box also had more old Clancy photos and I thought I had finished scanning that stuff.

This is a scan rather than a photo from my phone

Grandeur

I received my new wand scanner. If it doesn't work on Amazon then try Ebay.  This one was cheaper at around $100 but only claims to do smaller documents.  However I was not chasing a scanner with stitching software this time as I now know how to do that with photo software I already own.  This scanner works and I was glad to see a complete set of images when I unloaded it.  I have tested it on a complex map and a poster we brought back from Italy.  The poster is a thick parchment type of card so folding or bending would ruin it. The middle resolution of 600dpi  works well. The software handles the smaller files better and the zoom facility is still good.  The poster below was scanned in two halves with an overlap down the middle.  There is no way you can tell where it is joined. The scanner is portable with its own power.  You can scan anything in a library or a shop for later perusal. No more trying to fold paper over a flatbed scanner.

1/6/23

Yes Winter has arrived but it is full sunshine here and topping out at 18°.  I had a recovery day yesterday after the previous three day's exertions.  I caught up on the clothes washing, spent an hour in the supermarket and also unloaded the videos from the weekend.  I have Estelle working away in her kitchen and she is cooking for two of us.  The photo scanning is also bubbling along. I try to spend at least an hour a day on this but no more than two.  I found one photo here that I don't recognise at all. Maybe I wasn't there but it looks like we are off on a country train and the caption only says May 89.

What was the destination?

I will continue this film over the next two days.
