Fish Frenzy

I saw a thing where a QLD policeman said his state was Australia's most disaster prone state. Now we are getting to the crux of it. It rained yesterday and it seems it will again today, so don't tell me there is no rain here. We went for an indoor activity at the local aquarium. We have been to the Melbourne and Sydney versions of this, so this one is smaller but still worthwhile. We also combined lunch with it as there is a big fish tank to see while you are snapping at your snapper.  I had the ribs which were tasty but a huge plate full.  We spent 80 mins following the trail from tank to tank. The water clarity in this control room is way better than we saw on Green Island the other day.

I took photos of things that are similar to what I have seen in Corio Bay. These are rays, seahorses and jelly fish. They have upside down jellies here, very weird. There is also a section on killer fish which I wont see at home but then again they had no blue ringed octos or any octopii to see and we have plenty of those at Clifton Springs.

Fish City

Now that I have the panasonic video replaced I should be using it.  There was a lot of squawks coming from the water and sure enough it was crowded with birds of all sorts following a fish trail.  There are pelicans in amongst this lot but mostly are cormorants and gannets.  If one gets a fish then someone else wants to steal it.  It is hard to pick up but you can see fish being swallowed whole.

Fish Friday

There are some large fish shops on the Bellarine and one of the biggest in Drysdale.  We have been here six yar and have always been drawn to that one. It's fresh there is a lot of choice and its expensive.  In the back of your mind there are the large fishing boats out of Queenscliff and we have seen them at night lighting up the ocean as day from Collendina. It is an expensive business.  We know a canoe fisherman from Williamstown who says don't ignore your Coles fish section. We have been trying these for the last four weeks. We had Basa fillets last week. They are thin but tasty and I bought too many so we had two meals for $6.  Today I got Barramundi, a half kilo for $7.  This is way cheaper than the big fish factory.

Marine Victoria Project

I joined up to a web page that depends on citizen science eg in this case observations of marine life with photos.  There is this huge database of sitings of anything in the water or near the water. They don't take video so I have uploaded the captured still frame of the fish I saw the other day.  It's a bit fuzzy but the prelimenary scan said some sort of LeatherJacket and there are plenty of different types of those.  It seems they don't completely leave it up to the software that compares photos but mark it for a humanoid check and verification.

Fish Eggs

We had a decent storm blow thru last night. Everything is clear and sunny again after the lightning show. I went over for the swim this morning and the water was very clear. I thought it may have been a bit silty. A good swim it was. I tallied up two rays, two large schools of different fish, another fish with an appendage, maybe an egg sack and a golf ball.. The rays are in the middle of the clip. The darker one is easy to spot and the lighter camouflaged one is sitting right next to him but darts off in a hurry as I approach.

Film Day

I was on a roll unloading video today. I started with the gopro, piecing together a short underwater clip from our snorkel the other day. Then I got on to the other camera which had a few back dated videos in it as well. There are not to many fish to been seen, although there is a good closeup of a big jelly fish. Debbie glided right passed and never saw it.  There were plenty of birds way up and one way low.
