Bay Action Time

Another sign that Winter is on the way out is when boaters start boating and yachts start yachting. I have seen increased activity particularly with yachts making there way in for one or two night stays.  Surely the wind has to be a low factor for a better nights sleep. Mind you the only sleeping I have done on the water is in much bigger ships, floating palaces even. There were also a few races recently where I got a short clip of duelling spinakers.

Boat Action

I have been observing the waterside comings and goings of late. The two yachts are still hanging out and the theory is they are waiting for the current weather pattern to pass which is much calmer this morning.  I can see one is Green Tim and the other could be White Julie but I think the name is on the otherside in the video below. Just checked the Marine Traffic map and can see it is named Poseidon. I have also been waiting for something to happen on the Navy pier across the way. Overnight a freighter named BBC Destiny has docked there with a couple of tugs and what looks like one of those orange pilot boats. This must be some preparation for the use of the pier. Hooray.

Tassie Spirit

This is the first time I have seen the the Tassie boat coming into Geelong. It may have had a schedule change due to weather but previously I have only seen it going out each evening but this time it was coming in and around 5:30pm.  I also notice the Navy pier seems to be all in one piece again.  Most of the work barges have been removed, so I guess sometime next year we will see some Navy shipping in the area.  I am not mentioning the weather.

Tassie Connection

The Spirit of Tassie ferry has made an appearance choofing across Corio Bay today.  It did make a test run a couple of yar ago but from now on you can travel from Geelong to Tassie with your car.  I did do it once and I think I will have to try it from here just see if you can spot our house from the boat. I also notice the Navy pier is coming along. This project is a year over due but I can see that a lot of the cranes have been removed although there are still a few there so it's most likely still got a ways to go.

Winter Yachting

After last night's rain things have cleared up nicely even with some sunshine and dry enough to do some mowing.  I spied a yacht race off the port bow just now. It seems yachties are still active in Winter and this race is part of a series in and around St Kilda but this last one is a destination style rather than an out and back. The Geelong yacht club host the finish for them.  I hope they don't huff when they luff or jib when they jibe or even lose the bosun over the side.

I can see clearly

We were going for a visit and a pub lunch today before yet another lockdown got in the way. Except we are sick of talking about that, at least we got in a video chat with Estelle, not that she was paying that much attention. Meanwhile around here it was very clear this morning.  The light is often better on the You Yangs first thing. I could pick out features where it is often just grey.  I haven't had a close look at this video clip yet but it should have some good detail.  The rain is coming now and as I look across we are back to grey.

Corio Action

We have had some cold days and blustery but it does not stop the doings out on the water. I am typing this up with one eye on the Olympics on the other screen. I have not gotten the 7 Plus dedicated channels to work but the main channel is OK.   As for out on the Bay, a large construction barge was moved across and most likely is going to Port Arlington where a huge upgrade of the Terminal is happening for the ferry there with a new pier and buildings at its end.

Power Shortage

It has taken a while to get this typed up today as we have had no power again this afternoon. It seems to happen quite regularly and I was trying to get the video camera unloaded although there was not a lot to show as it turned out.   I did selvage some bird action and a close up of the ferry we use from Port Arlington which was way off course.

Possum Poo

Didn't have a very good sleep due to possums running over the roof. This has occurred a few times and does not make for a good day the next day.  The staghorn man who has remounted our ferns was at his wits end and decided to cut down 6 huge gum trees overlapping his roof. I don't think we are at that stage as yet.  I also spied the Port Arlington ferry way off course yesterday. For some reason it came straight at us and stopped just below. It was a bit windy but not that bad. I have never seen it in that position before. They have to do regular sea tests in different conditions.

Cruise Watch

I have been hanging out for our first view of a cruise ship.  I spied one this morning and got all excited about it sliding past our front door.  It looked smaller but then it is probably the smaller ones that are going to get to Geelong. I got some video going and some zoom photos and the ship line came up as Wellard.  Then I could see the ship name as Ocean Drover.  These aren't names I have heard of in the cruising world.  All I can say is those cows seem to be travelling in comfort and the sheep at the back looked all very kosher.  Turns out this livestock carrier is up for sale, so if you need a lot of beef moved it will take 18,000 cattle or 75,000 sheep.
