Early Geelong

We aren't venturing outside today as the wind is nasty, although it might die off a bit in the afternoon.  I was trawling through my map draws here and found some maps that I had purchased from the state library in 1980. Copies of maps that is. There are five of them and the Geelong area is covered as well. John Batman favoured this area when he first setup near current St Leonards, just down the way.  His first encampment and explorations are plotted on one map and were just to the back of us here along the ridgeline.  He writes that our house is on 'Fine rich rising ground'.  I must have known in 1980 that I would need a map of the area when I moved here.  It's a bit short on detail.  There are negatives of these as well. I paid 65c each for the bonded paper copies but no cost mentioned for the negs.
