This is a town that was buried by ash, soot and mud then lava. We have seen Pompeii which is larger but this one was covered by 30 metres of stuff so is better preserved. Three hundred bodies were found in some seaside vaults where they unloaded boats. Seems there were not enough boats to go around. The excavation shows ¼ of the original town. There are modern houses covering the rest of it so is unlikely to be fully excavated. We also had a quick look at Naples which has similarities to Milan with its huge glass shopping mall.
