The twain mark is two fathoms down which means it is safe for the Mississippi river boats to pass through. Samuel Langhorne Clemens started using the name Mark Twain after he spent time working the river on a paddle steamer. Not sure why a riverman from the deep south would pick England and its King for a book about harsh laws and treatment of the populace. Some of the Olde Englishe speak is harder to read but still a classic yarn.
