I have lost count of the number of times the locals make excuses for the weather. Just accept that it rains a lot and leave it at that. I don't think I have ever had a rain free stay in QLD ever. We finished off at the Mantra Esplanade which we have not used before but they do not have fans in the room just air con which we always have trouble with. Our friendly P&O boat Encounter is still here but leaving soon. They have come via Brisbane so we may use it one day as a combined Brisbane visit.
