Dell Order
Every few years I put in an order for a Dell laptop via the internet. In fact Debbie's machine is six years old but she hesitated 3 years ago when windows 10 came out. This time around she wanted as light weight as possible. When you cut down on weight they throw things out. We also need a new docking station and the Thunderbolt standard did not exist a few years back. We need cable converters to get the old cables to plug the monitors into the new docking station. We were on Latitude series machines for years but I have put in the order for an XPS machine this time. I have doubled the on board RAM to 16Gb always the number one spec to get right. I notice the hard drives are all solid state these days eg no moving parts. Windows has to be the Pro version otherwise it will not see our other network devices. I also notice the laptop does not have an RJ45 connector so no direct network cable port anymore. Total reliance on wireless comms. However the dock has one so it can still be hardwired at home. It's always a leap when you work out your order via email, transfer the money up front and then wait a week while they build it.
