During the recent search for historic Drysdale photos, Crimea House kept popping up. It must be around here somewhere and I saw Crimea Street which seemed to be a good place to start. At the bottom of a dirt road is a large gate with a canon or two in the distance. A closer look shows a plaque with Crimea House 1891. It seems that after the Crimean war (which was fought and won by an alliance of the British, French and the Ottoman Empire (Turks) against the Russians) there were homeless soldiers and sailors sitting on street corners. So it was decided a place would be built to house them. It took it last resident in 1917. It is now a private residence. Those never say die Russkies recently took the peninsular off of Ukraine in 2014.
