Around 12 yar ago when I last went to this spot it was called Mt Eccles National Park and we were only passing thru so we only did the crater rim walk and moved on. This time we brought lunch with us and took a few hours for a closer look. The renaming has also seen some new tracks like the one that gets down into the bowl of volcano lake itself. More work needs to be done on getting rid of the blackberries. We took a short drive to the Lava Canal walk. This leads to the lava tube entrance but is blocked now and does leave an impressive cave and natural rock bridge. We had lunch here. Spread the blanket over some stumps, gives a nice table and seat at the same time.
